8 minutes. 8 minutes is all it took for 6 products to sell out. “How was it so quick?”, you may be asking yourself. Well, I think I may have figured the two key reasons for this fast sell out time. So, here’s what happened to the Jschlatt plushies.
Releasing last friday, a gaming YouTuber called Jschlatt got his third wave of Youtooz products, with each of the first just containing one figure. So, this is the largest drop for Jschlatt or any single content creator in Youtooz history. (Well, until recently with the upcoming Flamingo plush collection drop.) So, that’s a brief little backstory. Now let’s get into the events of the drop.
As usual, it dropped at 3:00 PM and people rushed to check it out. Due to high traffic, people had to wait a minute or two to check out, but it didn’t seem like a big deal, since this has happened with people like TommyInnit. So, people checked out, but as they did, they noticed something weird: the 2ft, 1ft, and one of the pillows were sold out. Out of panic, people checked the product page, and they were sold out. There was no glitch. As they noticed this, other products began to sell out starting with the keychain, the other pillow, and then finally the bag. And just like that, at 3:08, the plushies were all gone. Soon, Twitter and Reddit blew up with angry people, theorizing about how fast they sold out and posting #RestockSchlattPlushies. And then everyone calmed down as Youtooz themselves began to clarify things, making 2 key reasons for the sell-out times clear: hype and “low” stock.
Hype
Hype online is the key factor in trends and product sales. That game is getting talked about a lot? It’s probably generating a lot of hype. Everyone is really excited for that new episode of The Mandalorian? It’s getting really hyped up I guess. Hype contributes to the successes and failures of a lot of things. So when Youtooz has been teasing this for over 5 months now, it’s been generating a lot of hype, with even more and more people getting their money ready for the day it finally releases. Which brings me to my next point:
“Low” Stock
Youtooz has said that they weren’t expecting the amount of hype for this drop, and as such they couldn’t produce enough plushies to satisfy everyone who’s been hyped for the drop. Because of the amount of hype and the limited stock, it all combined to create fast sell out times. And this stock isn’t even that low. It’s not like each product had 100 each, people are guessing that each product has as low as 1,000 to up to 5,000. To say the least, it wasn’t understocked in that sense.
So, what does this mean for the future of Youtooz plushies? Probably just 2 things. 1. Youtooz is going to (hopefully) pay more attention to the hype of their plushies and the way they slowly tease them, allowing them to produce just the right amount for those who want it can get the plushie. 2. It shows people how popular plushie drops can truly be. Sure the Flamingo V1 plush drops were very popular, but the Schlatt drop has shown how hype it can truly get. With that said, that’s it. Bye I guess.
