Throwback Game Reviews: Tetris

by Angelo, Grade 7

Ah yes. Tetris. The game thought by many to be THE most addictive game of all time. The game revolves around stacking four-squared blocks, called tetrominoes, before they overflow from the top of your screen. Completely filling a line will clear it, and any experienced player knows how to do so. Now, we will get into the history of this game, as I almost always get sidetracked when writing these articles. We start in Russia with Alexey Pajitnov, who created a game revolving around stacking 4-pieced blocks. It was hugely popular among his college classmates and the game even got the attention of the Soviet Union. Soon, everyone wanted the rights to this game, called Tetris, an amalgam of the words tetra and tennis. Rights to the game have been in the hands of such companies as Nintendo, Atari, and EA. All in all, very fun, very time-consuming, and I may be addicted.
