Imagine this: you’re learning about video games through your parents, and you enjoy your Mario Kart and your Angry Birds, but one day, your parents introduce to you a jingle that will stay embedded in your mind forever, as the jingle to one of the best games of all time: Wii Sports. Today, we’ll be talking about how many people consider it as one of the best games of all time, and how it’s also the best selling Nintendo game of all time.

The Simplicity

If you’re trying to get people who don’t really play video games to play your console and games, simplicity is key, and Wii Sports knock it out of the park with its simplicity. The games are easy to control because of the Wii Remote’s motion tracking, so instead of trying to press 3 different buttons at a time just to swing a baseball bat, you just swing the Wii Remote to swing the bat, and to kids (Like me at the time.) and casuals, this is mind blowing. The simplicity also makes the games infinitely replayable, so it keeps you coming back, again and again.

The Accessibility

Another key feature is its accessibility, which goes back to its simplicity. Because it’s so simple with it’s controls, it made it so even your little brother with his Cheeto fingers or your grandpa can understand how to play and have a blast playing bowling. Another key is that it’s everywhere. You want to know why Wii Sports is the best selling Nintendo game of all time? Well, it’s because the Wii is the best selling Nintendo console of all time, and since the Wii came with Wii Sports for most of its lifespan, almost everyone had a copy. And even if you missed out on the bundle, they eventually made an individual copy of the game, so that if you have a Wii, you got to have Wii Sports. Because everyone and their dad had a Wii and a copy of Wii Sports, you begin to want it for yourself as you play it more, so you buy a Wii, and also get Wii Sports. The final key feature to its accessibility is the Internet. As the years went on, the presence of the Internet just kept growing and becoming more of a necessity for work and personal things. And since the Internet grew, you had more and more people talking about how they enjoy the game, and more and more people got interested in it and possibly ended up buying a Wii with Wii Sports.

Despite the fond memories of the game, most people eventually moved on, even me, onto things besides video games or just on to other consoles like the Wii U. But, in some part of all of our minds, we’ll remember Wii Sports, and all the memories we had with it. So everyone, when you have the opportunity to play the Wii again, play Wii Sports, and you’ll have a blast.
