Star Wars was created 43 years ago, uniting film critics and nerds/geeks with it’s amazing characters that are now iconic and its great story. 38 years after the first film, The Force Awakens comes out, and reunites those 2 forces. And now, a story in the Star Wars book comes to an end. So, did it do a good job. Let’s find out.
Let’s go over the plot, (Here’s where I spoil the first 15 minutes or so), Kylo Ren goes on a spree to obtain a GPS thing that will lead him to a thought to be dead Palpatine. Meanwhile, the war between the Resistance and the First Order still rages on. When Kylo Ren arrives, Palpatine and his followers have ready and entire fleet of ships, larger than the First Order’s fleet of ships already. He will let Kylo use it on one condition: he brings him Rey, the last Jedi. That’s all I’m going to stay. Although the plot is predictable, it is still a good plot and they way they present it and tell you it is touching because (Another spoiler coming up, sorry.) you are possibly going to see your favorite character die.
The character development is also phenomenal. It’s easy to understand what’s going on with each character and what it will lead them to grow to. Also, the characters themselves are full with little details that make them feel more alive than just characters.
And now, for the effects. Oh boy, they are good. The Lightsabers feel more alive than ever. The fleet of ships by Palpatine looks amazing. And the battles are flowing with live because of these effects. Short answer: they’re great.
But there are some downsides to this film. Like I said earlier, the plot is predictable. And just something about the whole film feel rushed compared to the Force Awakens.
In the end, it’s Star Wars. How bad can it be? But for real though, the 9th Star Wars movie does not disappoint. From it’s plot to the effects, this movie almost nails everything. So reawaken your inner nerd, and enjoy the Rise of Skywalker.
Score: 9/10
