Recently, at Blizzcon this year, with Diablo 4’s announcement, the sequel to the popular FPS game, Overwatch, was announced. Though people are fighting if it’s just the same game with PvE and some new maps and characters, I think not. So, let’s go over what we know about Overwatch 2.

The Story

30 years ago, Omnics, a robot race, declared war. With humanity backed into a corner, Overwatch was created to fight back against the Omnics. But as Overwatch grew, so did criminals joining the organization, hoping for redemption after working with Talon, one of Overwatch’s enemies, or any other background. This caused Overwatch to be shut down. But, know the Omnic war is on chapter 2, the fight still continues. So, Winston initiated Overwatch recall, with immediate response from Tracer and Mei. With just them, they head off to Paris to fight the Omnics. But they then backed into a corner by the Omnics and expected the worst, but then Genji showed up, and then Reinhardt and Brigitte and more and together they took down the Paris evasion. And with that, Overwatch was back together.

Gameplay

Now for the gameplay. A bunch was announced, starting with:

PvE

PvE (AKA Player vs Environment) has 4 players online take down story missions against the Omnics with a variety of characters. Along the way, they level up certain characters to get skills that make the character a huge buff, like Tracer’s Pulse Bomb being able to start a chain reaction. Luckily, these skills will stay out of PvP.

Hero Missions

These missions are 2 player co-op mode games, which are supposed to be highly replayable. Not much else is known though.

Push

This is adding on to the first game’s 6v6 online battles. Push is like a tug of war where you have to get a robot to push a wall to your base. Along with that, a bunch of new maps are being added to the multiplayer, with these maps planning to be in the Story Missions as well.

Graphics and Visuals

With the new game, Overwatch is getting a new graphics engine, making the game look cleaner than ever. Also, HUD like health and Ultimate bars are going to be cleaner than ever.

New Heroes

What’s an Overwatch game without new heroes. Right now, only 2 heroes have been announced. One of them is Echo, the first robot of the game. Sojourn was also announced, the first Canadian hero. Not much more is announced about either, but we expect more in a few months.

Overall, Overwatch 2 looks amazing. Though we only know a little, we can expect great things from the sequel. So, might as well replay the first game.
