Everything from the Animal Crossing Direct

by Finn, grade 6

Despite the Direct being out for more than a week, I don’t care. So here we go, Animal Crossing Direct, hosted by Tom Nook! The Direct did an amazing job, refreshing us on what we know, the new stuff, and Q&A. Since they broke this Direct up into 3 parts, this will also be in 3 parts. SO here we go, part 1!

Part 1

So this goes over what we know and a little more. Before you go, you can choose the island you go to and which hemisphere you start in, which actually has different seasons each month. If in the Northern Hemisphere, at launch date, it will be warming up for Spring. Each season also changes the activity, like Summer usually means you’ll be doing a lot of bug catching. When you arrive, you won’t be alone though, with about 2 other “citizens” along with you. You then find a place on the island to put your tent as your home. Other “citizens” may also ask you where to put their tent, allowing you to build a community you’re happy with. When you arrive, there will be two facilities. There will be Resident Services, which is open 24/7 in which you could buy other items and sell unwanted items. They also will have a Crafting Bench on hands and if you attend certain workshops, you can craft other items and furniture through recipes. You will also need materials though, that you can find around the island. Certain workshops will also help you learn customization, in which you can add and make your own patterns to certain furniture. Back to the facilities, there is also the Airport that you arrive in, that is available with all of its functions after one day on the island. At the Airport, you can use the Internet or local wireless to visit islands and invite other people’s island. Up to 8 people can be on one island at once. It also has a postal service through postcard-like things, in which you can write letters and send items to other residents. When you get a tent, Nook Inc. will also give you the bare necessities to make yourself feel at home. This also comes with a NookPhone, coming with key applications, such as a Camera. Also, at the beginning of each day, Tom Nook will make a broadcast, letting you know about important news. Also, with your NookPhone comes the Nook Miles program, giving you activities to earn Miles, a currency to be used at Resident Services. These could get you out of debt for the Getaway Package, clothes, DIY recipes, and more. Now for a little more about wildlife and other things. You could encounter things like wasps and scorpions, and if you can’t catch them, RUN. They could irritate you or get you to pass out. You could get Medicine, which will help the irritated. Nighttime will also bring other things, although we don’t know much. There could also be a castaway, so help them out. If you do get lost/stuck, you could use the Rescue Services, which returns you home. You could also upgrade your tent into a house, in which you could keep on upgrading for more space in the room. This will also come with storage, and the fact to be able to move stuff around without physically moving them. You will also get free-cam when you do this. The debt that comes has no time limit, so you could pay it at your own pace. Back to the Nook Miles, using Miles, you could buy a Nook Miles Ticket, which will allow you to briefly travel to other islands and collect the island’s resources. Up to 8 people can also live on an island, with up to 4 people being on locally with one console. This also brings Party Play, which has a few people explore the island together. The game will also come with a service with the Nintendo Switch Online app, where you could scan pattern codes from the prior games, New Leaf and Happy Home Designer. This could also be used as a voice/text chat.

Part 2

When you start out, you won’t be alone. Coming along with Tom Nook is Timmy and Tommy, as well as 2 other “citizens” You will be able to eventually invite more people, but the number of people is unknown. Tom Nook will also help you with this task. Eventually, you’ll also be able to build facilities, like a Museum, Nook’s Cranny (A shop hosted by Timmy and Tommy), Able Sisters (Clothing and headgear store), and a Campground (You can invite guests and possibly invite them to your island). When you start, Resident Services will start as a tent, but you could upgrade it by making it bigger and better. This will have it end up as a full building and improve certain services and invite more people, like Isabelle. Guests will also be able to come to your island and can help you out in certain ways. Eventually, events like Fish-Offs will begin to happen. There will also be free updates that offer seasonal events, with the first one being available on launch day. This will unlock the Bunny Day AKA Easter event. Eventually, you will be able to buy bridges and ramps to help traverse the island. Eventually, you will be able to terraform your island on land and on water and be able to build paths.

Since part 3 is kinda irrelevant, uhhhhhhhhh, bye!
