Have you ever wanted something easy to make on a time crunch? Something healthy but delicious? Yes, you probably just grab some rice cakes or a yogurt cup. But avocado toast is an amazing alternative. “Avocado toast is usually stereotyped into something that only ‘Hipsters’ eat, but it has surfaced as a delicious and easy source of vitamin C, E, K, and B-6”, a recent article from Healthy Eats Magazine states. Avocado toast is definitely something you should try, and here are a few reasons why.
So, many people don’t like avocados for 1 reason alone: the texture. They may not like the smooth creaminess of a ripe avocado, which I can accept, but if you pair that with the crunchiness of the toast it contrasts beautifully. So, if there are any avocado haters reading this, I suggest you pair avocado with a slice of crispy toast; that may make you eat avocado more often. Also, with this particular food, you can basically pick and choose the textures. It depends on how long you toast the bread for an amount of crunch, and you can choose the ripeness of your avocado for a tougher or smoother spread.
The two flavors actually make a great pair, with the muted sour/sweetness of the avocado and, well, the bread flavor could be anything. May it be sourdough, multigrain, rye, or just plain white bread, it all tastes great with avocados. Like the texture, you can choose your flavor combinations easily. The contrast is hard to explain, so you’ll just have to trust me or try it for yourself.
Avocado toast is definitely one of the easiest things to take on the go. You just spread cut-up avocado onto a slice of toast or bread. You can just pop it in a Tupperware container and take it anywhere, be it school, work, or a snack for the road. Avocado toast is not only a tasty snack but a pretty wholesome lunch as well. Just a tip though, if you aren’t going to eat your toast until a few hours later, squeeze a bit of lemon juice over the avocado to prevent browning. That won’t interfere with the taste, though, so it’s not a must-have, although the lemon brings out a nice flavor in the avocado.
In conclusion, anyone who doesn’t usually like avocado (or toast for that matter!) I recommend pairing them together. This a healthy alternative to Nutella, or whatever you usually like on toast, plus it is a great source of several vitamins as well as omega-3. It’s filling and definitely not a boring flavor combination. Try it sometime -- what have you got to lose?
